Illinois Born Texas Grown, Charlie J Memphis’ fate was sealed the moment he touched a guitar. The singer-songwriter was introduced to piano and classical guitar at a very young age. But it was the electricity of the steel strings that captivated his imagination and set him on his path of expression. Memphis was raised in the suburbs of Chicago but found his voice and sound after moving to Texas. Developing a unique sound and a love for songwriting that has been inspired by his home in Texas which pays tribute to the outlaw and cosmic country ways of old, while not forsaking his young age and punk rage. He has been fearless when it comes to forging ahead in musical directions not explored by any other artist near his age.
2018 was a big year for Charlie, as he dropped his first EP, Bloody Is the Water, and two singles Move Along and Fairy Tales. 2019 proved to be even busier than the previous as he interned at The Echo Lab studio under Matt Pence and released a third single, Trophy Wife. Charlie actively performed in 2019 with his band The Boneshakers, as well as played solo gigs across Texas. But would soon travel with Vincent Neil Emerson as the bassist of the Traveling Armadillos, all the while supporting other artists such as Dakota Smith, Tanner Fields, South Texas Tweek and David Miner.
2020 Charlie took advantage of the pandemic recording a forth single Learning to Cry independently and a 10 track album with Paul Cauthen and Matt Pence at The Echo Labs. In 2021, when not performing with the likes of Paul Cauthen, Charley Crockett, and Nikki Lane he can be found collaborating with other songwriters in the Midwest area while attending ACM@UCO. Continuing his growth as an artist and songwriter, that of which no one will ever forget.
